Headline: New members sought for Consumer Advisory Committee

17 February 2015

PHARMAC is seeking three new members for the Consumer Advisory Committee.

PHARMAC is the government agency that decides which pharmaceuticals are subsidised for New Zealanders. PHARMAC makes a vital contribution to New Zealand’s health outcomes.

The Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) is an advisory committee to PHARMAC. It is made up of people with interests in areas such as the health of older people, the health of people with specific health conditions or diseases, the health of Māori people, Pacific peoples, and people living in rural areas.  The Committee’s role, defined in legislation, is to provide the PHARMAC Board with input from a consumer or patient point of view.

CAC provides advice on how we can better seek the views of, and be responsive to, consumers.  PHARMAC can also seek the Committee’s views on other topics, including educational information to assist patients, initiatives to promote the responsible use of medicines, and initiatives to reduce inequality in medicines use.

PHARMAC is seeking applications from people who have the appropriate knowledge, experience, and community networks to be appointed to the Committee.  There are three vacancies.

The Committee meets in Wellington at least three times a year. To fulfill the position, you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • experience to be able to reflect consumers’ or patients’ points of view, from a general and broad perspective, rather than from a specific interest group;
  • understanding of current health issues and of New Zealand’s health system;
  • established links with health providers and/or consumer networks;
  • the ability to work constructively in a group;
  • the ability to differentiate between an individual and societal perspective on issues;
  • well developed interpersonal skills;

To apply for this position please email your CV and cover letter to cac@pharmac.govt.nz.  Applications close at 5pm, Friday 13 March 2015.

Please contact Simon England, Consumer Advisory Committee Secretary on simon.england@pharmac.govt.nz or (04) 460 4990 for additional information.
