Headline: Kiwis pedal length of New Zealand to fund Plunket Playgroups
In March 120 team members from The Warehouse will embark on a cycle relay the length of New Zealand (2,213km) to raise funds for Plunket Playgroups.
Pedal for Plunket, kicks off in Cape Reinga on Wednesday 4 March, crossing the Cook Strait on the Bluebridge Ferry on Thursday 12 March and then finishing in Bluff on Tuesday 17 March.
Plunket and The Warehouse are encouraging Kiwis to support the ride by adding a dollar to their purchase at The Warehouse stores nationwide (from 4 March), visiting http://pedalforplunket.org.nz/ to make a donation and also cheering the ride on as it goes past your town.
Plunket CEO Jenny Prince is thrilled The Warehouse has chosen Plunket as the recipient of all funds raised.
“The funds will go towards Plunket’s Community Playgroups which will mean we can keep current groups going, and look to launch more in communities that need them.
Like all of our community services, Plunket’s playgroups are funded solely through donations. Having The Warehouse on board to support us through this cycle relay and in store activities is fantastic. We hope people get behind the race, so we can offer even more children a place to play and learn, and support more parents, whānau and caregivers to nurture happy, healthy Kiwi kids.”
In addition to the volunteers taking part in the relay, The Warehouse team members in stores, distribution centres and the support office in Auckland will be aiming to cycle over 110,000km on bike machines – all to raise funds for Plunket. If this figure is achieved, the total distance cycled by team members will equal three times around the world.
The Warehouse GM Community and Environment, Paul Walsh said supporting Plunket was a natural fit for the company.
“Community is at the core of The Warehouse’s values and Plunket is an organisation that helps families all over New Zealand. We’re excited to launch this fun event that involves so many of our team members from all over the country – all for a good cause!
We really encourage people from around New Zealand to come out and support the cycle as it rides through a town near you.”

About Plunket Playgroups
Plunket Playgroups bring together groups of parents, whānau and young children for play sessions.
Some groups get together for music or movement, and others have a full range of play activities suitable for different age groups, up to the age of five. Most groups meet weekly and some fortnightly and they run for around two hours. Plunket playgroups are free or low cost for all who attend.
Plunket’s free playgroups give New Zealand children aged 5 and under a fun, safe place to play and learn, and give their parents or caregivers a chance to connect with each other for parenting support.
By supporting Pedal for Plunket Playgroups, you will be helping give more children the chance to attend playgroups for free and, with New Zealanders across the country, help build better brains and stronger foundations for our children.
