Excitement and awe were on the looks of Frankton Primary School’s kids faces (Wednesday 29 June) when they buddied up with local netball Cold Power Waikato Magic heroes to get their free dental care at one of the Waikato DHB’s community dental clinics.

The initiative, Team Magic Buddy Up Day, saw Cold power Magic midcourter and face of Community Oral Health Courtney Tairi along with some of her team buddy up with children and support them while they attended their dental appointment.

With her two Frankton School buddies in arm, Courtney’s video messages were simple.

“Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time” says Courtney.

“Drink lots of water straight from the tap and drink plain milk”

The children were beaming given they were going to the dentist and torrential rain was outside said Diane Pevreal, Manager Community Oral Health.

“These role models showed children that trips to the dentist can be happy and fun and it’s exciting to bring along a support person. Some of the Cold Power Magic players even took the opportunity to jump on the dental chair and open wide to prove it.”

“With our incredible ambassador Courtney commanding the Waikato DHB oral health campaign we hope friends, families and the wider community will attend regular dental appointments for their 0-17 year olds and practice good oral hygiene to save our children’s teeth.”
