We have the opportunity for a recent graduate or someone with a few years work experience with an interest in the interface of business and health.
You will work with the permanent Tender Analyst to manage PHARMAC’s annual tender: an open, contestable process for the supply of pharmaceuticals. This process generates significant (multi-million dollar) savings for New Zealand – savings that can then be used to purchase other pharmaceuticals. This position has high responsibility and makes a real difference to the lives of New Zealanders.
The annual tender process provides pharmaceutical companies with the opportunity to gain sole supply for a product for approximately three years. Given the scale of the tender and its financial value, it is critical the process is well run and coordinated. Good time management skills are essential, as is good numerical ability, an eye for detail and robust process, and the ability to prioritise and multi task.
To be successful in this role you will need
- to be tertiary qualified, ideally in science, health or commerce.
- a proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally
- the ability to build solid relationships, internally and externally
- to be commercially astute
- good time management skills
- solid numerical ability
- an eye for detail and robust process
Experience in running tender processes would be an advantage but is not required.
At PHARMAC, we make the most of our opportunity to make a difference for New Zealand, including through developing ourselves and our organisational capability. It’s our people that make the difference, so we value them and the commitment and professionalism they bring. We also value our diversity, combining science, medicine, commerce, analysis, marketing and more to facilitate good decision making.
PHARMAC is the Crown entity responsible for ensuring New Zealanders have access to a wide range of affordable pharmaceuticals. As an international leader in pharmaceutical management, PHARMAC makes a vital contribution to New Zealand’s health outcomes. This is done by:
- Managing the Pharmaceutical Schedule (the list of subsidised medicines)
- Promoting the responsible use of medicines
- Assisting DHBs with national procurement initiatives
- Considering applications for funding pharmaceutical treatments for individual patients.
This is an exciting time for PHARMAC as it moves into the area of hospital pharmaceuticals.
If you want to make a difference to the lives of New Zealanders, and thrive in a busy and challenging environment, we’d love to talk to you about joining PHARMAC’s team.
