Commission offers ‘train-the-trainer’ workshops for consumer representatives and providers

14 Aug 2018 | Partners in Care

The Health Quality & Safety Commission is offering ‘train-the-trainer’ workshops to consumers and providers in the health and disability sector. The purpose of the training is to better prepare consumers (and their family and whānau) to contribute to being advisors/representatives at health and disability meetings and on groups and councils.

The Commission has developed and updated four modules for consumers covering four areas: health and disability context, experience base, evidence base and partnership.

To increase the use of these modules, the Commission (through the Partners in Care programme) will undertake two one-day workshops to show interested consumers and providers how to deliver them using a ‘train-the-trainer’ method.

There will be two ‘train-the-trainer’ workshops: one in the North Island and one in the South Island, in late November 2018 and late March 2019 respectively. The Commission will provide all materials, travel costs and support for consumers to attend this forum.

Health and disability sector staff interested in attending should work in a role related to consumer engagement within the health and disability sector. Consumers should have experience of health and disability services and ideally be engaged in a consumer-related role. Preferably, participants should also have an interest and some experience in working with adult groups.

We may bring people together in other geographic locations if there is sufficient interest from different services in a particular area.

Ideally services will nominate a consumer and provider to attend.

Please email Diane de Rochester (diane.derochester@hqsc.govt.nz) by 30 August 2018 if you would like to participate.
