Headline: Inquest into death of Diane White underway
The coroner will today (Monday 30 June) in Hamilton open an inquest into the death of Diane White on 19 January 2010 at her home in Frankton.
Christine Judith Morris was a voluntary inpatient in Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre at the time. She was found guilty of her murder and sentenced on 2 April 2012 to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 10 years.
Dr Rees Tapsell, Director of Clinical Services for the Mental Health and Addictions, Waikato DHB, said the DHB commissioned a review into the care and treatment of Ms Morris in the period leading up to the murder of Ms White.
“Whilst it is easy to see a number of things that we would have done differently, had we known then, what we know now, all DHB staff acted in a humane and professional way and no one could reasonably have predicted that Ms Morris would act in the way that she did.
“Our thoughts remain with Diane White’s family and we offer our sincere condolences to them,” said Dr Tapsell.
