Headline: Bupa Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine commitment to older person health
Bupa Care Services and Waikato DHB in conjunction with the Institute of Healthy Ageing announced today the establishment of the Bupa Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine.
The Bupa Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine role will be actively involved in the development of services within Waikato DHB concerning older person and rehabilitation services, having a particular focus on using or developing best evidence.
Older people (65+) use three times the health care resources of other age groups and are three times more likely to suffer from some form of disability. This is also likely to be more significant in the Maori and Pacific Island populations.
The rising complexity of health interventions, coupled with growing demand and patient expectations, has resulted in the need to ensure that the configuration of the health system and the way in which services are delivered is driven by the best available evidence where available, and where that is not available that appropriate evidence is created. It is also critical that that the health sector functions as an innovative learning system that consistently puts the best ideas into sustainable practice.
The Bupa Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine will be responsible for providing academic and clinical leadership in relevant research and scholarship, teaching and learning and innovation. This will include conducting leading-edge research programmes in care of older people and rehabilitation, which is nationally and internationally competitive.
Working with the Institute of Healthy Ageing -this role will connect clinicians and academics to ensure leading edge clinical care, research, policy and education.The role will develop and lead a programme of internationally recognised study, which results in the discovery, integration, and application of new and existing knowledge, which will improve the efficiency, safety and accessibility of health care in New Zealand.
